Hospital Apology

It's Suicide Prevention Week.
Let me be serious. Suicide is not a laughing matter; it's a serious subject. The act of taking one's own life is tragic. The feeling that the world would be better without oneself or that death is the only escape from pain and stress is tragic. It's a topic that must be treated with seriousness, otherwise it comes off as tasteless.

I thought that this week was the right time to reveal something. Remember my last drawing of Nail, where he was picking up a prescription? He was picking up anti-depressants. Nail has suicidal depression.
Back when he was 14, he felt terribly lonely and shunned from the world. He felt like no one cared about him and the world would be a better place without him. And so, one fateful day, he got into the bathtub and slit his wrists. His mother came in just in time and rushed him to the hospital. He barely made it due to the amount of blood he lost. The first thing he said when waking up was an apology to his mother for trying to kill himself.
Now, as a result of his suicide attempt, his hands don't work properly. His thumbs and index fingers work, but the rest only bend at the knuckle. He's unable to use a pencil. He's unable to use utensils. He's been crippled by his decision at 14, and it will likely affect him the rest of his life. He still has to take anti-depressants, even in college.
